Irina Zlobina

Artist member since 2019
Toronto, Ontario

Irina Zlobina is a Russian-born painter and printmaker with more than twenty years of artistic practice, and with a successful track record of exhibiting internationally and to critical acclaim have been collected both by museums, and private collectors in Russia, Germany, France, Great Britain, United States, and Canada. Irina has had to reinvent herself as an artist in 2018, having had to hurriedly relocate to Canada as a political refugee, owing to the threat of political persecution of LGBTQ+ individuals in Russia. In Canada, she has continued to carve out her artistic path with confidence, supported, in part, in 2018 by the Toronto Arts Council "Newcomer and Refugee Artist Mentorship". Irina’s artwork is grounded in expressionism: using the breath of irrationality, deforming objects into something more truthful she manages to convey more accurately the wild poetry of life and a single moment. She presently works out of her home studio in Toronto.
